About This Advanced Teacher Training

This 300 hours Advanced Yoga Teacher Training is a month-long residential program meant for yoga practitioners and teachers who have already completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training from a recognized yoga school. The course is a comprehensive, complete and authentic yoga teacher training focused not only on the physical postures, but also on how the postures evolved. We explore yoga’s ancient sacred texts and five thousand year old traditions, for expanding and deepening your own yoga practice and advancing on the spiritual path incorporating the physical, psychological, spiritual and mystical aspects of yoga into modern life.

It provides an ideal training to develop a steady practice that helps reset daily habits and by reconnecting to the traditional practice. The immersion in sadhana and yogic studies with other like-minded practitioners removes doubts and inspiration is strengthened. You will experience a heightened sense of well-being and update your teaching skills to teach others how to live in harmony. Individual guidance and yogic self-discipline are important aspects of this course.

Our Yoga Vana location provides a place in which you will feel safe to challenge yourself and to explore your limits with the support of knowledgeable teachers and staff. If you are an active teacher, it is a natural step to take to broaden your teaching practice.

Become a Certified Advanced Yoga Teacher

Yoga Vana is committed to providing high-quality yoga education which allows graduates of this teacher training program to teach yoga safely and skillfully with a deeper understanding of the subtle aspects of the practice. Yoga Vana Forest Academy is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance, USA.

Trainees are continuously assessed throughout the course at all levels. There will be a written exam at the end of the course to evaluate the understanding of the philosophy and theory of Yoga. Participants should pass all different aspects of the course to be eligible for the course diploma.

Assessment of participants is based on:
1. Regular attendance of all classes
2. Performance and attitude in asana, pranayama, bandha and kriya practice
3. Hatha Yoga teaching skills
4. Written daily summary of the main philosophy class and Hatha Yoga theory class
5. Written examination (3 hours) on the theory of Yoga and Vedanta philosophy

Unsuccessful students will have to repeat the entire course at regular cost to qualify for the certificate.

Upon successful completion of the course you will receive the “Teacher of Yoga” certificate of Yoga Vana Forest Academy, India. This training course fulfills the requirements for the Yoga Alliance RYT-500 / 300 hour certification.

The 300 hours Advanced Teacher Training is a natural step for Yoga Vana graduates who completed our 200 hour yoga teacher training to expand and deepen their practice and knowledge of yoga.

Graduates of other 200 hour Courses

If you have taken a 200 hour teacher training elsewhere, in a different school or style, please email us your yoga teacher training certificate and syllabus as well as current level of self-practice. If your previous training doesn’t include what is considered standard syllabus, we may ask you to sign up for YV30 - a 30 hour introductory online course to our teaching system - or come for a two week Yoga Vana foundation course. This will serve as a preparation for our 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training in India, which can be challenging, if you don’t have the physical or spiritual background that we impart in our 200 hour trainings.

SYLLABUS

Course Content

  • SURYA NAMASKAR: You will be immersed in the daily practice of a minimum of 20-30 rounds of Sun Salutations every day to improve cardio-lung capacity and to strengthen your body overall to hold advanced poses and practice advanced pranayama for a longer time.

  • ADVANCED ASANA: You will be immersed in a daily practice of intermediate and advanced classes with a focus on inversions, forward bends, backbends, twists, balances and standing poses as well as an in-depth exploration of sequencing and applied alignment. You will practice prolonged holding of asanas.

  • YOGIC ANATOMY & SEQUENCING PRINCIPLES: Both morning workshops and afternoon practice sessions will teach how to practice / teach more advanced asanas and their variations safely with applied anatomy, as per the level of the student. Includes the physical and energetic anatomy of the human body.

  • HANDS-ON ASSISTS: You will learn how to give hands-on assists to students while they are practicing advanced asanas, and how to guide your students in deepening their basic practice to intermediate and then advanced levels.

  • TEACHING PRACTICE: Each student will be teaching at least two to four intermediate and advanced classes to a small group of fellow trainees. These classes will be monitored by our teachers who help with corrections and give feedback / suggestions to improve your teaching skills. At the end of this training you will have the skill to begin teaching intermediate and advanced yoga classes right away.

  • PRANAYAMAS: Everyday 60 minutes of pranayama is practiced while applying bandhas. You will learn how to practice / teach basic and advanced pranayamas safely. Different bandhas are practiced and you will learn how to apply them during your own pranayama and asana practice.

  • KRIYAS: Daily practice of Jala Neti, Sutra Neti, Kapalabhati, Agnisara, Nauli and trying out Kunja Kriya in the third week of the course, for students who are ready. Includes instructions in how to practice and teach healing, purifying, and detoxifying hatha yoga kriyas.

  • SANSKRIT LANGUAGE IMMERSION: You will learn to recite, read and write the Sanskrit alphabet and explore parts of the major yogic texts: The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita and The Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

    MEDITATION: You will learn to meditate for longer periods of time, practice meditation twice a day as well as learn how to teach various meditation techniques to your future students.

  • PHILOSOPHY: Yoga Vana Teacher Training focuses not only on the physical postures, but also on how the postures evolved. We explore yoga’s ancient sacred texts and five-thousand-year-old traditions, as well as the psychotherapeutic benefits that develop with a steady practice, and the spiritual power that is set free when energy flows throughout the heart, body, and mind. Deeper understanding of hatha yoga. The essence of Bhagavad Gita for daily life and Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are discussed and studied in depth. Vedantic and Yogic wisdom to apply in the daily life to understand the mechanics and control of our mind and how to live a more effective and positive life.

  • AYURVEDA: An introduction to concepts of Ayurveda to understand the physical body/mind, more than what yoga anatomy can teach. You will also study the contraindications of certain asanas and how to help students with common diseases and difficulties.

  • DIET: The importance of a vegetarian diet in regards to human health, sustaining the eco-system, reducing violence in the world and as a means to enlightenment. Proper nutrition according to the three-dosha theory of Ayurveda.

  • YOGA KIRTAN / CHANTING: Learning how to chant Sanksrit prayers that you can use in class rooms. Positive effects on the emotions. Correct pronunciation and mental attitude.

  • REFLECTION MANDALA: Weekly self-reflection on your progress and challenges.
