Vana Farm

Western Ghats  ·  Tamil Nadu – Kerala  ·  South India

A forest.
A garden.
A place to practise.

Vana Farm sits at the foothills of the Western Ghats, in South India where yoga, meditation and the land are taught together.

More than
a retreat centre.

Vana Farm is a residential yoga campus and working permaculture farm. Students do not simply visit. They live here, practise here, and participate in the daily rhythms of the land. The farm grows its own food and also sources from the local market. The kitchen is sattvic. The mornings begin before sunrise.

It is not a luxury resort. It is not a hotel with yoga on the schedule. It is not an ashram bound by rigid or blind rules. It is a place where yoga is lived as a complete way of life – from the practice hall to the garden to the kitchen table.

Life at the farm.

Yoga & Meditation
Asanas, pranayama, meditation and yogic & vedantic philosophy, taught in the classical tradition.
Permaculture Garden
A working organic farm that students participate in as part of their practice.
Farm Visit, Forest Walks & Nature
The Western Ghats forest begins at the edge of the farm.
Tree Project
An ongoing reforestation and land stewardship project at the heart of the farm.
Sattvic Kitchen
All food is grown or sourced locally and prepared according to yogic principles.
Residential Space
Simple, comfortable accommodation within the campus.

Built by Mani Raman
and Savitri,
from the ground up.

After searching for a right place in nature and away from the hustle of noise and pollution, in 2016 Mani Raman and his wife Savitri came to a small plot of forest land at the foothills of the Western Ghats with a clear intention: to teach yoga the way they had each received it, in depth, in silence, and in connection with the natural world. To see soil as a base and not as a property. To assist nature to receive and not to consume.

What began with a handful of volunteers staying in tents under thatched roofs has grown, over nearly a decade, into a residential campus with a working farm, a practice hall, a sattvic kitchen, and a resident teaching community. The way Mani Raman teaches has stayed the same throughout.

Vana in Sanskrit or Vanam in Tamil means forest. The name was not chosen lightly.
